🎭 Anti-Bullying Monologues
Powerful Scene Pieces to Raise Empathy and Awareness
✍️ What Are the Act Against Bullying Monologues?
Written by Louise Burfitt-Dons, founder of Act Against Bullying, these impactful anti-bullying monologues were first published in 2002. Since then, schools, youth groups, and drama classes across the UK have used them to:
-
Raise bullying awareness
-
Spark empathy
-
Improve classroom relationships
There’s something uniquely powerful about acting out real situations that young people recognise. These monologues explore social exclusion, group dynamics, and subtle peer behaviours that cause harm—often without intent.
💡 Why Anti-Bullying Monologues Work
Research shows many young people don’t mean to bully—but they may stay silent out of fear or peer pressure. Silence and bystanding can harm others—and themselves.
These monologues highlight the grey areas of bullying:
-
🚫 Peer exclusion
-
📱 Social media cruelty
-
📸 Sexting pressure
-
🏚️ Neglect at home
They offer a safe, creative space to explore difficult topics. Students relate to the characters. No one feels singled out. The focus stays on behaviour—not blame.
“These anti-bullying monologues are powerful. Easy to use. They lead to real conversations about how we treat people—and no one needs to be named.”
— Steven Collins, Teacher

🧍 Sample Monologue: Partners
“When you go into the classroom in the morning there are always people screaming and running around. I just want to stay at the back and be on my own.
The worst time is when you have to have a partner.
You know no one will pick you. It makes you feel really bad, like everyone hates you.
I told my mum. She said to go and ask someone first.
I tried that once—in cooking class. I asked this girl, ‘Will you be my partner?’ and she said yes. I felt so happy.
But when we went to the table she said, ‘I don’t want to be your partner anymore,’ and ran off to join another girl.
I was left standing there. The teacher told me off.
‘I said get into partners!’ she snapped.
I never asked anyone again.
My mum says I’m shy, but I’m not really. I just don’t want that to happen again. It was horrible.”
