📖 Who runs Act Against Bullying
Louise Burfitt-Dons, crime writer and concerned parent, launched Act Against Bullying in 2000. After her daughter was bullied at primary school, Louise wrote monologues that exposed the subtle ways children hurt each other.
“Children told me bullying began with little things they couldn’t report. I called this ‘Exclusion to Cause Distress’ (ECD), and it became our focus.”
— Louise Burfitt-Dons
ECD (Exclusion to Cause Distress) describes the deliberate isolation of a child by a peer group. It can be subtle—but devastating. AAB pushed back against outdated advice that ignored emotional bullying.
Many parents, teachers, and even police didn’t recognise these modern patterns of peer cruelty. But children affected by ECD often felt anxious, rejected, and afraid.
AAB became their voice—showing that bullying isn’t always physical. It’s emotional, social, and now, increasingly digital.
