Celebrate Kindness Day UK | 13 November
🌍 What Is Kindness Day UK?
Kindness Day UK launched in 2010, inspired by World Kindness Day. It’s proudly affiliated with the World Kindness Movement, a global coalition of over 28 countries promoting kindness across borders.
The original movement began in Tokyo in 1997, and continues to grow—non-political, non-religious, and open to everyone.
Each year on 13 November, Kindness Day UK celebrates the quiet heroes—those who show compassion without expecting anything in return.
It’s a chance to:
- 🌟 Reflect
- 🧡 Honour unnoticed acts of kindness
- ✨ Encourage simple, thoughtful actions
👉 You can pledge a kind act right here on our site.
💫 Why Kindness Matters
Kindness is powerful—especially when it comes to stopping bullying.
Where bullying thrives on intimidation and exclusion, kindness builds:
- 👥 Community
- 💬 Empathy
- 🤝 Respect
As a leading UK anti-bullying charity, we’ve seen how small gestures—offering a seat, checking in, speaking up—change lives.
When young people feel seen and supported:
- They’re less likely to bully
- More likely to stand up for others
- More confident in showing empathy
Kindness empowers bystanders to act. It sends a clear message:
🚫 Cruelty has no place in our communities.
🎉 Our Campaign Journey
Our work in kindness began in 2001 with a simple, memorable slogan:
It’s Cool to be Kind 💬
Since then, it’s spread across schools, youth groups, and organisations nationwide.
🌟 Kindness Campaign Highlights:
- 🎨 Kindival Festival (2009) – Chelsea College of Art
- 🏛️ Kindness in the City (2011) – Somerset House public event with Big Society Network
- 🏫 Kindness initiatives in schools – inspiring empathy-led anti-bullying action
Through art, education, events, and research, we’ve shown kindness isn’t just nice—it’s essential for inclusive, supportive communities.
🧠 The Science of Kindness
Science supports what we already feel:
Kindness helps both giver and receiver.
It improves:
- 😊 Mental wellbeing
- ❤️ Emotional resilience
- 🧍♂️ Social connection
- 🧠 Brain chemistry and stress levels
Kindness encourages positive behaviour, while reducing harmful ones like bullying. That’s why we embed it in education programmes and prevention work.
“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
— Mark Twain
