Callum Tindal Draper hated bullying. At Act Against Bullying, we pay special tribute to the brave 22-year-old British man from Gunnislake, Cornwall, who tragically lost his life while fighting in Ukraine on November 5. Callum served with the foreign volunteer platoon, and it is believed he died defending an observation point in Ukraine’s ongoing struggle against Russian aggression.
Callum’s mother, Caroline Tindal, shared her heartbreak and pride in a moving Facebook post, writing, “He fought till he could no longer hold them off any more. His platoon are calling him a ‘hero’ and ‘as brave as they come.’” She reflected on her son’s short but impactful life: “22 is a young age. But you lived and died following your heart, soul and morals. May you rest in peace and help watch over those who have passed.”
Callum’s courage and principles were evident long before he joined the fight abroad. From his school days to his young adult years, Callum was a steadfast supporter of anti-bullying causes, a passion that resonated deeply with us. Having faced bullying himself, he understood the pain of vulnerability and used that understanding to stand up for others who needed support.
Friends and family have shared stories of Callum’s unwavering commitment to protecting those who couldn’t protect themselves, showing that his moral compass guided him throughout his life. His decision to journey abroad and defend Ukraine stemmed from the same values that drove him to combat bullying: a profound sense of justice, empathy, and courage.
“We are deeply touched and proud to know that Callum counted anti-bullying efforts among his many passions,” says Act Against Bullying’s Founder Director Louise Burfitt-Dons. “His legacy reminds us of the importance of standing up for what is right, no matter how challenging the path.
Callum’s bravery and selflessness will not be forgotten. He leaves behind a powerful example of living a life driven by compassion, conviction and kindness.
Rest in peace, Callum. May your courage inspire others to stand against bullying and oppression, carrying forward the values you so fiercely upheld.”
